Solar Net Metering Policy Explained

Eligibility, capacity limits, and why unapproved equipment or a skipped inspection can cost you the whole arrangement.

Eligibility and capacity

Policy sets a capacity cap and restricts eligible hardware to certified inverters and protection schemes. That cap moves over time, so check the current published limit for your DISCO before buying equipment — not before signing the contract.

Single-phase and three-phase homes can have different practical ceilings, driven by service capacity and how much load the local transformer can carry, not just by what the policy document says in the abstract.

Compliance is not optional

Connecting generation without approval can trip both safety rules and billing rules. Go through the formal application process and get a sanctioned diagram where one's required — skipping it isn't a shortcut, it's a liability.
